Dead Cells

Releasing on 8/7 for Switch, Xbox One, PS4

Dead Cells is a rogue-lite, metroidvania inspired, action-platformer. You'll explore a sprawling, ever-changing castle... assuming you’re able to fight your way past its keepers in 2D souls-lite combat. No checkpoints. Kill, die, learn, repeat.

Grimlock's Must or Bust:

Must- It's Metroid with rogue-lite features, of course this is a must for me. The gameplay is fast, fun and challenging, the visuals are a beautiful throwback to the 16 bit era. This game won't be for everyone as it does have "permadeath," which means when you die you start back at the beginning of the game. I normally am not a huge fan of this style but Dead Cells balances it in a way that is both challenging and enjoyable. Don't sleep on Dead Cells, it is totally a must own!

Madden NFL 19

Releasing on 8/7 for Xbox One, PS4, PC

Madden NFL 19 gives you game-changing control on and off the field. Real Player Motion transforms the way you play Madden delivering you gameplay control with precision and intent. Create and share custom Draft Classes, design your game strategy, progress your players and execute your game plan with all new positional archetypes in Franchise. In Madden NFL 19 Ultimate Team, train your favorite players to fit your roster and lead your team to glory in all new ways to compete.

Grimlock's Must or Bust:

Bust- I enjoy watching the NFL but I have not enjoyed a Madden game since 2004. Electronic Arts has not shown me a reason to keep spending my money on this franchise. I know this is another unpopular opinion, but with my limited free time to spend gaming, I will stick to games that are more than roster updates with one or two slight mechanic tweaks. The Madden franchise should start looking into the game as a service (GaaS) model to help rejuvenate the franchise and allow it to evolve for eSports and the competitive scene.

Overcooked 2

Releasing on 8/7 for Switch, Xbox One, PS4

Overcooked returns with a brand-new helping of chaotic cooking action! Journey back to the Onion Kingdom and assemble your team of chefs in classic couch co-op or online play for up to four players. Hold onto your aprons… it’s time to save the world again!

Grimlock's Must or Bust:

Bust- I love my wife, family, and friends, this is why Overcooked 2 is a bust for me. The game is too stressful and ruins relationships. I have watched several people scream at each other because of the first game and I am not interested in a second round of pointing fingers and throwing controllers. Overcooked 2, just like the original, is a great game and can be a very fun multiplayer experience, but the difficulty level ramps up too fast and causes too much frustration. I know this is the unpopular opinion but Overcooked 2 is a hard pass for me.

Flipping Death

Releasing on 8/7 for Switch, Xbox One, PS4

Possess the living, aid the dead and flip between the worlds of Flipping Death – a puzzling adventure platformer where you find yourself filling in for Death. Maybe your new powers will help you solve the mystery of your own demise?

Grimlock's Must or Bust:

Must- I was able to play Flipping Death at PAX East this year and enjoyed the demo immensely. Talking with the developers about the flipping between worlds mechanic was what originally caught my attention to stop and play the demo. Then they told me I was covering for the Grim Reaper while he took a vacation, at that point I was sold on Flipping Death. Once I saw the artwork I realized this was the same team that made Stick It to The Man!, a game I really enjoyed but never paid attention to who made it. The puzzle solving and story of Stick It to The Man! was great and I could see a lot of that same design and story telling in Flipping Death. So go enjoy Flipping Death and when you are done pick up Stick it to The Man!

Okami HD

Releasing on 8/9 for Switch

Also Available on: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Experience the critically acclaimed masterpiece with its renowned Sumi-e ink art style in breathtaking high resolution. Take on the role of Amaterasu, the Japanese sun goddess who inhabits the form of a legendary white wolf, on a quest to defeat Orochi, an eight-headed demon and tyrannical monster responsible for turning the world of Nippon into a ruined wasteland.

Grimlock's Must or Bust:

Must- If you love art and story then do not miss your chance to play Okami HD! The Sumi-e ink art style is truly beautiful and unique, and now in high definition! If you never played Okami back when it first released, this is your chance to try one of the most unique games I have ever played.

We Happy Few

Releasing on 8/10 for Xbox One, PS4, PC

From the independent studio that brought you Contrast, We Happy Few is an action/adventure game set in a drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England. Hide, fight and conform your way out of this delusional, Joy-obsessed world.

Grimlock's Must or Bust:

Must- I have not had the chance to play We Happy Few, but this is still a must for me as it looks to be a very interesting game. We Happy Few has suffered several delays but in the end it looks like developer Compulsion Games used this time to really make We Happy Few the best it can be. The story and setting are enough of a draw for me to be a day one buyer.

Monster Hunter World

Releasing on 8/9 for PC

Also Available on: PS4, Xbox One

Welcome to a new world! Take on the role of a hunter and slay ferocious monsters in a living, breathing ecosystem where you can use the landscape and its diverse inhabitants to get the upper hand. Hunt alone or in co-op with up to three other players, and use materials collected from fallen foes to craft new gear and take on even bigger, badder beasts!

Grimlock's Must or Bust:

Must- I have tried to play many versions of the Monster Hunter series, but it wasn't until Monster Hunter World that I really enjoyed a game from the franchise. The game is still a very grindy based game that you can sink 100s of hours into, but this time around it feels more accessible to the new comers and the gamers that just want to enjoy slaying some monsters but can't invest tons of time. Capcom has done a great job making it easy to play with friends and enjoy a great cooperative experience. So gather your friends and gear up to go on some fun and challenging adventures together in Monster Hunter World.
