MARCH RELEASE MADNESS: My Decisions - PTGer

by x5mileRickx

As we all know these past 2 weeks have been full of huge gaming releases, right? Games like Horizon Zero Dawn, For Honor, and Ghost Recon Wildlands (looking at you, cable2kx). Not to mention, the yet-to-be released Mass Effect Andromeda. Oh, but wait that is not all... THE NINTENDO SWITCH CAME OUT, and I'm told that's a big deal. So, a huge couple weeks of releases equals huge choices for the part-time gamer. So I'm here to share my choices and decisions I made and the heartbreaks I'm going through. Also, I'll throw this in now to get it out of the way, I was on vacation in Florida for the last 9 days with zero gaming access besides my 3DS XL.

Ok, let's start with Horizon Zero Dawn. It was released last Tuesday and, as readers of my last blog would know, it is very hard for me to resist. As it turns out, people in Florida were excited for this game as well. I know this because on our way home from the Tampa Bay Lightning game Monday night, my wonderful, glorious, beautiful, and amazing girlfriend and I witnessed a Game Stop with no less than 8 people in line for the midnight release. I'll be honest, it was very hard for me to not pull over and join these folks in line. After a red light of thought I didn't. I knew going to buy the game then would make me even more jealous of my friends who were at home playing this mythical game. I still have not purchased it, but I have played it over at JazzE's house for about 15 minutes. Yeah, 15 whole long joyful minutes. In that short time I can tell you the game is gorgeous. Here's the thing though, this is the type of game that gives me nightmares. We'll call these games 50 hour plus games, or 50HPs. These games take time to fully enjoy and this one I will be saying no to... for now.

Alright, let me address the other games I mentioned before. I'll start with For Honor, because its the easiest answer: hard pass, not my style of fighting game.

Moving on, Ghost Recon Wildlands. This is a hard one for me because I have been burned hard by a certain Tom Clancy game in the not so distant past. That, of course, was The Division. The new Ghost Recon, however, has caught my interest yet again. The trailer looks great and it looks different enough for me to try (if for nothing more than to play with the FPS master and my Destiny doubles partner, Cable2kx). I will be buying this game.

Now the best for last; Mass Effect Andromeda (I say that with a pretty big disclaimer though because I've never played a Mass Effect game, but I am all in). The game play trailers have me hooked. I mean, come on, it's like Destiny on steroids. Guns and powers and outer space, that type of stuff is my bag, baby. It has impressed me so much it's the major reason I'm passing on Horizon. If I'm going to play a 50HP game, I have to be in for the long haul. As the wise JazzE once told me, "Man, you can't just jump from open world to open world, got to finish." So, in that case, special edition? It's being considered.

Now, all that's left to discuss is the Nintendo Switch. After the agreed terrible reveal, I pre-ordered one out of pure curiosity. Well, it finally came in the mail (a little late but it's here, sitting on my coffee table... in the box). I didn't order any games...AHHH! Unpopular opinion here, but I'm not into Zelda games. Never have been, probably never will be. So there it sits until Splatoon 2

And there you have it folks, the choices I've made. I own a Switch, I'm buying Mass Effect 100%, and Ghost Recon will be a x5milerickx/Cable2ks special. As my excitement builds, I'm reminded once again, I have wasted a perfectly good gaming night writing this. Anyone up gaming this late???
